Sumário do Projecto
This project joins LIP as leading proponent together with ICS and INCD as co-proponents. These organizations are complementary and have well established competences in open science and in the management of research data. They also supplement each other in the coverage of scientific areas. ICS brings relevant data repositories and long-standing experience in the stewardship of data from social sciences, making this field the main thematic area to be addressed. LIP will cover the areas of particle physics and social physics, while bringing knowledge from participation in EOSC projects, augmented with experience in the management of large volumes of research data. INCD as a digital research infrastructure supports all fields of science and technology, and has the capability to house institutional or thematic data repositories closely coupled with cloud and high performance computing (HPC) capacity. This unique combination will enable easier archival of data from research as well as the exploitation and reuse of open data using cloud, HPC and big data analytics. In addition, it will also ease the deployment of complementary tools and services. The project will build upon the ICS and LIP experience in the management of research data and research data repositories according to the open science, and FAIR data principles. The project will create a thematic data repository for social sciences, customized to the requirements of this scientific domain. The data from for APIS the Portuguese Archive of Social Information managed by ICS will be migrated and consolidated into this new thematic repository, which will be openly available to social sciences researchers. In addition, a repository for particle physics and LIP research data will be established and managed by LIP. The repositories will be aligned with the POLEN repository as a framework of reference. Therefore, contributing to the growth of an interoperable network of data repositories under the coordination of FCT. The repositories will be housed at INCD using its infrastructure services. Future exploitation of this model by INCD is expected in areas such as agriculture, earth observation, and climate among others. Policies and practices for the management and sharing of research data will be established at institutional level in the proponent organizations, aiming at increasing the adhesion to the FAIR data principles and promote the usage of the open data repositories. In addition, dissemination, training and education activities will be developed to boost literacy in open science and remove adoption barriers. The participation in the future national network of data stewards will provide the necessary integration, while communication and dissemination towards other research centers in the supported areas will foster adoption and impact. Finally, the project will ensure alignment with best practices in open science and FAIR principles by liaising with EOSC and exploiting synergies with EOSC projects ongoing at LIP and INCD, as well as by coordinating its activities with FCT, the national consortium and with other relevant initiatives at national and international level.
