Master thesis defense
"João Afonso Jantarada, from the LIP NUC-RIA group, successfully defended his master thesis work entitled “Creation of p-nuclei in a type II Supernova Explosion: Simulation using the NucNet Tools code“ yesterday at the Faculty of Science of the University of Lisbon (FCUL). Congratulations!"
João studied the production of the most rare elements in our solar system, the so-called p-nuclei in the nuclear reaction network code NucNet Tools. The synthesis of these isotopes is extremely sensitive to the conditions of the astrophysical scenario, as well as to the considered nuclear physics input of the network. Therefore, they are an excellent case to model properties of thermonuclear explosions like those happening in Type II Supernovae (core collapse).
The work was supervised by Daniel Galaviz (LIP/FCUL), the PI of the NUC-RIA (Nuclear Instrumentation for Astrophysics) group. The members of the jury were Marco Pignatari (Konkoly Observatory, Hungary), Margarida Cruz (FCUL) and the supervisor.
Congratulations to our new Master in Physics and good luck for the future!
