The first PhD of the year 2023 at LIP

On February 27, 2023, Miguel Reis Orcinha defended at the Instituto Superior Técnico of the University of Lisbon his PhD thesis entitled "Study of solar modulation effects on cosmic ray fluxes measured by the AMS experiment".
The work was developed within the scope of LIP's participation in the AMS experiment, installed in the International Space Station (ISS). The supervisor was Fernando Barão, coordinator of the LIP team in AMS.
The discussion of the thesis took place in in-person mode, although with three members of the jury connecting remotely. The Jury members were Luís Lemos Alves (IST, president of the Jury), Laurent Derome (Université de Grenoble Alpes, France), Nicola Tomassetti, (Università degli Studi di Perugia, Italy), Mário Pimenta (LIP/IST), Fernando Barão (LIP/IST). The final classification was "Aprovado com Distinção".
