Américo Pereira
"1971 – 2025"
It is with deep sadness that LIP marks the passing of Américo Pereira, a colleague, a friend, and an essential figure in the history of our laboratory. Born in 1971, Américo joined LIP at the age of just 20, in the early days of the Laboratory, and has since been involved in some of the most significant phases and projects of our activity.
For over three decades, he was a vital pillar in the field of Instrumentation, actively contributing to the construction of detectors for major scientific experiments and working closely with almost every group at LIP. With exceptional technical skill and a rare, hands-on creativity, Américo was known for finding ingenious solutions to complex problems, always putting dedication, precision, and heart into everything he did.
More than an outstanding professional, Américo was an extraordinary person: generous, discreet, always available, and deeply caring toward others and the work environment. He was a constant and reassuring presence — a true source of positivity and collaboration within the laboratory. In recent years, he also contributed actively to the Workers' Committee, further promoting dialogue and collective well-being.
His absence leaves a great void, but also a lasting legacy of humanity, craftsmanship, and genuine friendship. His example will continue to inspire us.
In his honour, colleagues and friends have gathered a selection of photographs that reflect Américo’s contributions and the friendship he shared with all of us.
