LIP participates in the 5th Advanced Computing Meeting in Aveiro
"Event highlighted collaboration and access to advanced computing in Portugal, with LIP contributing to technical workshops and discussions."

The 5th Advanced Computing Meeting took place on October 22–23, 2025, at the University of Aveiro, gathering over 150 participants - a record number - including researchers, students, technical staff, policy-makers, and representatives from national and international institutions and companies.
Organized by the National Advanced Computing Network (RNCA), with the support of the EuroCC2 project, the BSC AI Factory, and the University of Aveiro, the event featured two days of workshops, panel discussions, and hands-on sessions focused on the present and future of High-Performance Computing (HPC), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and emerging technologies such as quantum computing.

As a EuroCC2 partner and member of Portugal’s National Competence Centre in HPC, LIP contributed to the organization and moderation of technical workshops, including sessions on getting started with HPC infrastructures, job submission workflows, and the use of tools such as EasyBuild and optimized containers for Python and Conda environments.
LIP also took part in the panel discussion “EuroCC: more skills, better access to computing,” which brought together experts from academia, industry, and European competence centres to share strategies for strengthening digital skills and expanding access to advanced computing resources across Portugal.

The event showcased recent developments on the Portuguese supercomputer Deucalion, including new application projects, quantum simulations, and improved scalability and usability features. It also addressed upcoming opportunities under the EuroHPC programme, FCT access calls, and the ongoing AI Factories in Portugal and across Europe.
With its dynamic format, diverse participation, and collaborative spirit, the meeting fostered open dialogue, practical learning, and knowledge exchange. It concluded with a social dinner and a gift voucher draw for access to Deucalion and MareNostrum 5.
