LIP marks 40 years with a celebration week
"From 4 to 8 May, events across Coimbra, Braga and Lisbon celebrate four decades of science in Portugal."

In 2026, LIP celebrates 40 years of scientific activity, marked by a strong track record in research, innovation and international collaboration.
To mark this milestone, LIP is organising a week of celebrations from 4 to 8 May, across its nodes in Coimbra, Braga and Lisbon, bringing together the scientific community, institutional partners and the general public.
The programme reflects the breadth of the laboratory’s activities, from fundamental research in particle physics to applications in areas such as health, space and advanced computing, as well as LIP’s role in major international collaborations, including at CERN.
Throughout the week, the programme will include institutional sessions, thematic days focused on key areas, discussions on the future of science, and public engagement initiatives.
A key highlight will be the Open Days, taking place in Coimbra, Braga and Lisbon, offering schools and visitors the opportunity to explore LIP’s work through guided visits, demonstrations and interactions with researchers.
Participation in the Open Days is free, with prior registration required for organised groups, namely schools. Registration forms are already available.
More information about the programme and activities is available on the webpage dedicated to the celebration.
