LIP at Neutrino 2024

LIP-ECO/Sofia Andringa/Lígia Breda Melo | 27 Junho, 2024

"The LIP Neutrino Physics Group stood out at the XXXI International Conference on Neutrino Physics and Astrophysics in Milan, with presentations and posters about their advancements in the DUNE and SNO+ experiments"

The XXXI International Conference on Neutrino Physics and Astrophysics was held last week in Milan, Italy. This event, the largest in the field, takes place every two years and, in 2024, returned to an in-person format with around 850 participants.

The LIP Neutrino Physics Group participated in the conference, contributing with their work on the DUNE and SNO+ experiments. Nuno Barros and Sofia Andringa presented a poster on the activities developed in each of them: laser calibrations in ProtoDUNE at CERN and the analysis of reactor antineutrino oscillations and geoneutrinos with SNO+.

José Maneira gave a plenary review presentation on recent results in solar neutrinos, which remain relevant due to the slight inconsistency between solar neutrino oscillations and reactor antineutrino oscillations. The main focus was on SNO+ and Super-Kamiokande, also addressing future experiment prospects and their ability to distinguish between alternative solar models through low-energy solar neutrino measurements.

The conference also presented new results on determining the absolute mass value of neutrinos and neutrinoless double beta decay, as well as the combinations among various oscillation experiments. Additionally, results from three different high-energy neutrino observatories, of both galactic and extragalactic origin, were disclosed.

Recent results and future perspectives of three other experiments in which LIP participates were also presented: SND@LHC, Auger, and XLZD.
