Sumário do Projecto
This proposal aims to fund Portugal’s participation in the operations and maintenance of the ATLAS experiment at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the team’s contributions to physics analysis. The LHC is currently in its third run of operation (Run 3), providing proton-proton collisions at a centre of mass energy of 13.6 TeV and an instantaneous luminosity of 2x10^34 cm-2s-1, which corresponds to around 50 pp collisions per bunch crossing. Till the end of 2025, when Run 3 will finish, the ATLAS and CMS experiments are expected to collect an integrated luminosity of 300 fb^-1 of pp collisions and 6-7 nb^-1 for PbPb collisions. Ensuring the best quality data for physics analyses requires the engagement of the full ATLAS collaboration to operate and maintain the detector and monitor the data quality. The LIP Portuguese team is a founding member of the ATLAS Collaboration and has contributed significantly to the experiment's construction, operations, physics and upgrades. During the duration of ATLASDaTA, we will continue to contribute to the challenges ahead, with emphasis on operations, maintenance and performance studies of the three sub-detector systems in which we have institutional commitments: the TileCal hadronic calorimeter, the trigger system and the ATLAS Roman Pot (ARP) detectors. In addition, we aim to exploit the physics capabilities of the data collected so far to study the Higgs boson properties, search for new physics beyond the Standard Model and develop ambitious flavour tagging algorithms to support our analyses.
