Sumário do Projecto
In ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions at facilities like the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and RelativisticHeavy-Ion Collider (RHIC), extreme temperature and density conditions of the early Universe are recreated, forming the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP). Jets — collimated sprays of particles from the fragmentation ofQuantum Chromodynamics (QCD) building blocks — interact with this evolving medium in a phenomenonknown as jet quenching. ChronoQCD aims to harness the QGP temporal evolution as a laboratory to explorethe dynamic processes of jet radiation and evolution. The project has three core objectives:1) Time-Dependent Jet Quenching Evolution: Develop a groundbreaking space-time formulation of jetevolution, integrating vacuum and medium-induced emissions to accurately describe QGP-inducedmodifications to jet fragmentation.2) Bridging QCD Formation Time and QGP Evolution: Provide a detailed characterisation of the QGP’s timeevolution across diverse momentum scales by connecting formation time to QGP proper time, reducingmodel dependence, and validating jet-based QGP probes.3) Exploration of the QCD Time-Axis: Extend the concept of space-time jets beyond traditional heavy-ionsystems to investigate QGP onset conditions in small systems and explore explicit time dependence in QCDradiation. This project will provide precise determination of QGP evolution and properties, unveil the elusive preequilibriumphase, and identify QGP onset conditions. By addressing critical gaps in QCD studies,ChronoQCD will advance our understanding of the Universe’s building blocks and shape future physicsprograms.
