FCCN Conference 2024

LIP participated in the FCCN 2024 Conference, which took place between April 15 and 17 on the island of Madeira. The annual event is the meeting point for the various communities of managers and users of the advanced computing, communication and other digital services platforms provided by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), through its FCCN unit.
Aimed at those responsible for the IT, library, documentation and archive services of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), as well as decision-makers and institutional leaders and those responsible for implementing science and research units, the FCCN Days serve as a space for sharing knowledge, good practices and technological updates.
The presence of LIP's Advanced Computing was particularly notable during the event, with strong participation in several sessions. Specifically, the laboratory was present at the sessions "National Advanced Computing Network", "RCTS - Technological novelties of the Portuguese academic network" and "Cloud Services and Networks".
Jorge Gomes, a researcher at LIP, spoke at the session on "Computing and Networking in Particle Physics". Gomes presented the European projects in which LIP is involved, emphasizing the high network requirements necessary for the activities in which they participate. In addition, he highlighted the fundamental role of RCTS (Rede Ciência, Tecnologia e Sociedade) in supporting these activities, demonstrating how the network infrastructure provided by RCTS is crucial to the success of the projects in which LIP is involved.
LIP's active participation in these sessions reflects the laboratory's ongoing commitment to international collaboration, the advancement of science and the use of cutting-edge technologies to boost research in particle physics and related areas. The FCCN Conference provided not only an opportunity to share knowledge and experiences, but also to strengthen the partnerships and collaborations that drive scientific and technological progress in Portugal and beyond.
