Software quality is crucial for both industry and research. High-quality software is reliable, sustainable, and reusable, meeting users' needs and providing expected results. Ensuring software quality also supports collaboration among developers and helps maintain long-term sustainability.
At LIP, we are dedicated to advancing software quality. For the past two years, our researcher Mário David has led the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) Task Force on "Ensure Software Quality". This task force gathers and organizes knowledge on software quality, offering tailored recommendations for various types of research software.
Recently, our team at LIP published a paper on "Software Quality Assurance as a Service" (SQAaaS). This concept involves an open-source platform that automatically assesses software and services based on defined quality metrics. The platform is user-friendly, featuring a web-based interface that simplifies the process of automated testing and continuous integration. It has already performed over 2800 assessments and awarded more than 125 digital badges to software and services across different scientific fields.
On June 27th, within the scope of the EuroCC2 project, a training session titled "Quality in Research Software" will take place online. This training will equip participants with essential practices for ensuring high-quality software, particularly in high-performance computing (HPC) environments. Mário David will guide you through the training.
