On July 1st, Miguel Leitão Lopes successfully defended his master's thesis titled “Image Reconstruction and Performance Evaluation Protocol for the HiRezBrainPET: A High-Resolution Positron Emission Tomography Scanner”. Miguel received an impressive grade of 19 out of 20!
The thesis was conducted within the framework of developing instruments and methods for biomedical applications, co-supervised by Patrícia Gonçalves, president of LIP, and Antero Abrunhosa, a researcher at the Institute of Nuclear Sciences Applied to Health (ICNAS).
In his work, Miguel developed a protocol for image reconstruction and quality control of a PET (positron emission tomography) system. This system, based on RPCs, was produced by the HIRezBrainPET collaboration, which involves LIP, ICNAS, and the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra.
The evaluation jury, which awarded Miguel the degree of Master in Physical Engineering, consisted of Patrícia Gonçalves, Mário Pimenta, and Nuno Matela.
