UMinho Award for Initiation in Scientific Research 2021
"The presentation session of the 20 finalist projects of the second edition of this award took place last Friday. The two LIP finalists, Magda Duarte and Miguel Peixoto, were awarded. Congratulations!"
Promoted by the Rectory in conjunction with research centres, the prize has allowed for undergraduate students to develop scientific projects integrated in research teams over the past few months.
The finalist projects were presented in public sessions and evaluated by juries of recognized competence in the respective scientific areas. The authors of the ten winning projects were awarded the prize (50% of the projects presented in each of the three panels).
Each UMinho research unit could nominate two projects only. Three students who participated in this year's LIP Internship Programme applied, and two were selected by LIP to go on to the final phase:
- Magda Mendes Duarte, “Muography of a Building”, supervision: Raul Sarmento and Sofia Andringa
- Miguel Caçador Peixoto, “Anomaly detection as a tool for discovering new physics in CERN's Large Hadron Collider”, supervision: Nuno Castro and Miguel Romão
Both LIP finalists were selected for the prize. Congratulations to Magda and Miguel!
