15th CERN School for Teachers in Portuguese
"The 2023 Teachers School in Portuguese began today at CERN. For a week, 48 teachers from all Portuguese-speaking countries will take part in an intense programme of lectures, visits and workshops in the international scientific environment at CERN."
The 15th CERN Teachers School in Portuguese Language began today at CERN. This year, 48 teachers from all Portuguese-speaking countries are taking part: 20 from Portugal, 20 from Brazil, two from Angola, two from Mozambique, one from Cape Verde, one from Guinea Bissau, one from São Tomé and Príncipe and one from East Timor.
For a week, these physics and chemistry teachers from the various Portuguese-speaking countries will take part in an intense programme that includes lectures, visits to experiments and exhibitions, workshops and discussion sessions, enjoying the international scientific atmosphere at CERN.

The aim is to give teachers the opportunity to strengthen their knowledge and resources in direct contact with cutting-edge research in particle physics. They will return to their countries as ambassadors for particle physics, passing on the content and enthusiasm to future generations.
The lectures, visits and other activities, as well as all the support to teachers during the School, are provided by members of the Portuguese and Brazilian particle physics communities, who may be working at CERN or travelling to CERN for this purpose.
The programme is coordinated by LIP in collaboration with CERN and is led by Pedro Abreu (LIP) and Jeff Wiener (CERN). The school has the financial support of LIP, Agência Ciência Viva, Instituto Camões, Crédito Agrícola, Caixa Geral de Depósitos, Banco Santander and, in support of Brazilian teachers, RENAFAE, CBPF, SPRACE and SBF.
The training programme for teachers in the national languages of CERN's member countries began in 2006, and the first Portuguese-language school was held in 2007. Two years later, the programme was the first to welcome teachers from non-member countries with the same official language. More than 800 teachers have already taken part in the programme.
