Congratulations to Joana Antunes

LIP-ECO/J. Sampaio | 14 Setembro, 2023

"PhD student in LIP’s RADART group (Radiation dosimetry and applications for advanced radiotherapy) has ben awarded a short-term internship through the UT Austin Portugal programme."

During the internship, Joana Antunes' work will focus on finding ways to predict the response of pancreatic cancer cells to radiotherapy. Joana Antunes will be working with Gabriel Sawakuchi at the MD Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC) for a few months, the place she considers to be a "world-renowned center for cancer research", according to her statement to UT Austin.

The Sawakuchi Lab -  the MDACC laboratory that will host the student from LIP's RADART group - currently focuses on the study of DNA damage response induced by radiation and to develop innovative radiation detection technologies for applications in radiation therapy and radiation biology research.

Recently, Joana was at the 10th International Symposium on the Physical, Molecular, Cellular, and Medical Aspects of Auger Electron Processes, in Montpellier, where she presented the results of her work in a talk titled “Modelling  survival  curves  in  enhanced  radiotherapy  with  gold  nanoparticles  using a realistic cell model”.

Congratulations to Joana and the greatest success in her work!
