Matteo Pisano wins a Técnico Innovation Challenge
"LIP and Técnico's PhD student won the TecInnov Jerónimo Martins competition with a project that proposes using Machine Learning to manage and optimise the distribution process. The competition is a partnership between Técnico and the company, which aims to support the development of innovative ideas."
The TecInnov Jerónimo Martins competition is a partnership between the Instituto Superior Técnico and the Jerónimo Martins distribution company that aims to valorise the talent of young people and support the development of innovative ideas.
The challenge was to present a project to improve the company's logistics. Matteo Pisano presented the proposal "IARD: Artificial Intelligence for Distribution Networks", which introduces a machine learning algorithm to manage and optimise the product distribution process.
The idea makes it possible to increase weekly deliveries, while reducing both costs and CO2 emissions, and complying with HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point).
Matteo Pisano is a PhD student at Instituto Superior Técnico and is carrying out his research work at LIP, as part of the group in CMS experiment at CERN's LHC. He is also a member of the Communication group at LIP.
Matteo was recently awarded 3rd prize in ULisboa's 3MT science communication competition, in which he presented the subject of his doctoral thesis in three minutes in an accessible way. He also published an article on this topic in the "Conta-nos a tua Ciência" section of Público newspaper.
