120 Years of Manuel Valadares

LIP-ECO/Lígia Breda Melo | 19 Fevereiro, 2024

"An exhibition and a solemn session mark the 120th anniversary of the Portuguese physicist's birth this month "

Born on 26 February 1904, José Manuel Nogueira Valadares was a Portuguese physicist specialising in atomic and nuclear physics, with a doctorate mentored by Marie Curie. He played a crucial role in starting atomic and nuclear research at the University of Lisbon and was also a pioneer in Portugal in the use of X-rays to study and restore works of art.

As part of the celebrations to mark the 120th anniversary of his birth, the Portuguese Physics Society, with the support of LIP, and in partnership with the Pedro Nunes Secondary School and Pedra Filosofal - Clube Ciência Viva na Escola, has organised the exhibition "Ver o invisível - 120 anos de Manuel Valadares". It will be open to visitors at the Nónio Gallery until 29 February.

Also as part of the initiative, a solemn session will be held on 26 February at 4.30pm in the Auditorium of the Pedro Nunes Secondary School.
