COMPASS is a fixed target experiment at CERN using high energy muon and hadron beams to study the proton spin structure and hadron spectroscopy. During its first phase COMPASS achieved the world most direct and precise measurement of the gluon contribution to the nucleon spin. A second research programme, from 2012 to 2022, was devoted to the 3-dimensional characterization of the nucleon structure. COMPASS has finished its data taking phase, entering now a phase of data analysis. The LIP group joined COMPASS in 2003 and since then it has been involved in the main analyses of the Collaboration. The group has the sole responsibility for the Detector Control System (DCS), an area where it has a recognized unique expertise. The group participates also in the new AMBER experiment, being one of the initial proponents.
AMBER is a new experiment at CERN devoted to Hadron Physics. It was approved in 2020 and starting data taking in 2023. The experiment is located at the same experimental hall as COMPASS, re-using some of its detectors. One of the main goals of AMBER is the study of the pions and kaons structure. Another proposed measurement, that should take place in 2025, aims at the proton charge radius. The present experimental program is the measurement of the antiproton production cross section from proton on helium, hydrogen and deuterium targets. This measurement is a necessary input to the interpretation of data on antimatter production in the Universe and the indirect search for Dark Matter.
