On September 11, 2019, the session "Particle physics: from fundamental science to society, a tribute to Gaspar Barreira" was held at the prime hall of the rectory of the University of Lisbon.
The tribute included four sessions: Physics; Technology; Proton Therapy; Gaspar's life and vision. There, his colleagues and friends, prominent names in science, recalled Gaspar's contribution and, because he always preferred to talk about the future rather than about the past, they discussed the challenges for the coming decades. In the final session, the man, the friend, and his immense legacy of vision, resistance and resilience were remembered.
